"I've been dying to get this case for a few years"

Inspired by an actual quote of one of my colleagues regarding a funeral homes case

Potential plot outline:
A corporate litigation law firm needs an insider to crack an anti-monopoly case of a funeral services home. The FS home guards it business secrets so heavily that the only way to get inside is to become a client. A while ago the law firm provided services to an unusual client (say, L. Cipher) who in return promises to set a two-way communication channel with the 'other side' if the case gets to a trial. So colleagues are trying to convince a junior partner to jump in. Several things need to be cleared, for example, can a dead person testify in court?
